2002 CALRO SEMINAR HUGE SUCCESS
?

On June 5, 6 and 7, the California Association of Labor Relations Officers (CALRO) held its Annual Spring Seminar at the Palm Springs Riviera Resort and Racquet Club, in Palm Springs. Sixty three sworn peace officers from as far north as Sacramento, San Diego, the Inland Empire and Lake Havasu attended the seminar, snaking it the second largest attendance in CALRO history. Since the inception of CALRO in the early 1980's, the Los Angeles Police Department's Labor Relations Section, has been the driving force in the development of CALRO. Over the past several years, the Orange County, San Diego, San Bernardino and Riverside County Sheriff Departments have also been instrumental in broadening the scope of CALRO and instilling enthusiasm to its members.

The seminar kicked off with a presentation from the newly elected Sheriff of Riverside County, Bob Doyle. The Sheriff voiced strong support for CALRO and its mission.

The seminar consisted of presentations from organized labor, legal updates from private labor attorneys and a Deputy] City) Attorney from Anaheim. Presentations were made by the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor and by the Los Angeles Police Department's Labor Relations Section personnel. A sergeant from Garden Grove made a formal power point presentation concerning a major demon by members of the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees (H.E.R.E.) union in their city, arid how their agency handled the event after receiving training at last year's CALRO seminar. The officers left the seminar with an abundance of up to date labor dispute guidelines and a quality networking system. It will continue to be tine main goal of CALRO to provide the most up to date and current information to its members concerning organized labor activity so that officers may provide the best service possible to the labor/management community and their individual departments.
