? From June 6 through 8, 2001, Labor Relation Section (LRS) personnel attended the annual California Association of Labor Relations Officer (CALRO) conference held in Palm Springs. The CALRO organization was founded in 1977 in order to standardize the policing of labor disputes. The Los Angeles Police Department continues to be a leader in this field. Last June aver 55 sworn members of law enforcement agencies from Sacramento to San Diego were present and participated in the seminar. There were attorneys from both labor and management represented and representatives from the Screen Adore Guild, the Service Employees International Union (janitors) and the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees union. A special presentation on the Native American Tribal Labor Relations Ordinance was given by Tom Gede, Executive Director, Western States Conference of Attorney Generals. In all, it was a very successful conference. The conference was very successful particularly since fours members of the Garden Grove and Long Beach Police Departments are in the process of establishing a labor detail in their cities. On June 15, the officers, along with Labor Relations Section (LRS) personnel monitored a major demonstration involving the Justice For Janitors union. The, event went peacefully and the officers were very appreciative for the insight and training they received from LRS. |
