EVERY YEAR THE TURKEY SHOOT DRAWS A FULL COURSE CROWD
On the first week of November each year, law enforcement agencies, labor unions, and management associations come together at Montebello golf course.
In the 1970’s, Los Angeles and surrounding Southern California cities experienced a substantial number of union/management strikes and labor unrest. In a search for ways to minimize conflicts at these labor disputes, the Labor, Police, Management (LPM) golf tournament was formed and drew participants from almost every labor union and management association to spend some non-confrontational time together.
Because of the success of the LPM golf tournament, the LAPD Labor Relations Detail and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industrial Relations Unit decided to invite some union friends to a golf game at Brookside Golf Course in Pasadena just before Thanksgiving in 1975. From that humble beginning grew the popular annual “Turkey Shoot” that CALRO took over a decade ago and continues to this day.
A GREAT ROUND OF GOLF, A CATERED DINNER, AND AN EVENING SOCIAL EVENT
The social event is often a highlight, including raffles, door prizes, and a comedian.
Participants are treated to a great round of golf, followed by a catered dinner and social event in the evening. The social event is often a highlight, including raffles, door prizes, and a comedian. Past participants have expressed their enjoyment of the event.
